Reuben Braid

There's a current Blog event named "Waiter, there's something in my..." where the host specifies a dish to find something in. This month it's bread — how could I resist? I found a fun recipe that consisted of a reuben with the bread baked around it. Tremendous fun and you can find my entry in the event at Seriously Good.

That looks awesome Kevin. Hey, did you use some of that frozen pizza dough for the outside of the reuben? Just kidding! Reuben's are one of my favorite sandwiches, so this I will make if you share the recipe.

Until today I didn't know what's a Reuben sandwich. I participated the event with a rye-mixed bread. Is this bread suitable for a Reuben's?

Ulrike,
Absolutely. For a traditional reuben take two slices of bread, butter one side and spread the mayonaise mixture on the other, add the meat, cheese, and kraut then grill in a skillet until browned.

That does sound like fun! I love it when sandwich fillings are baked inside the bread!

I sometimes mix up some pizza dough and let it rise filled with turkey or ham and cheese in a metal bowl which then goes in the oven. You end up with a kind of cooked sandwich - yummie.

I see the actual link now that you've pointed it out but I went to your site via the sidebar "Kevin" link to find it. Here is the link for those who are like me and don't readily see it:

Seriously Good - Reuben Braid

I just had my first Reuben sandwiches this year. (love them, even though I'm not the biggest fan of sauerkraut) We've been making the sandwiches with a slightly sour caraway seed rye I make. Killer good sandwiches!!

The braid is a cool idea - although we probably won't try it as we really love the "buttery crunchiness of a properly grilled Reuben".

That braid does look beautiful though.

Elizabeth,
I like the grilled version better, too. But this would be great for parties.
